Christy Henderson is originally from Fort Worth, Texas, but has lived and worked in the Upstate of South Carolina for the past sixteen years.
A broadcast meteorologist and graduate of Texas A&M University, Christy’s career stops have included Waco, TX, New Orleans, LA, Atlanta, GA, Washington, D.C., and Dallas, TX before earning the Chief Meteorologist job at WSPA-TV in Spartanburg in 2003.
Her role as Chief Meteorologist includes oversight of on-air forecasts delivered by her team members, staff evaluations, scheduling and decision making for new equipment and software.
In the community, Christy is an active supporter of area festivals and fundraisers, often donating time to emcee events that help raise money for nonprofit organizations. She is also a consistent visitor at area schools to educate children about the weather and severe weather safety.
In addition to her degree in Meteorology, Christy also earned a private pilot’s license, an UAS (drone) pilot license and most recently has earned a real estate license.
Christy was named South Carolina Broadcaster’s Association Weathercaster of the Year in 2005, 2007, 2009 and 2011, and was runner up for this award in 2013 and 2014. She was named the SCBA Personality of the Year for 2015.
Christy is married to Ryan Ross and they have two daughters, Kathryn and Sarah. In her spare time, (and sometimes there’s not much of it!), Christy enjoys hiking Table Rock, traveling, and playing soccer. Pepper, the family dog, now 15 years old, always keeps home life exciting!
